The health benefits of organic herbal teas are profound. We offer every patient of Rahav Wellness a freshly brewed cup of hot of iced organic herbal tea. Today’s blend is made from dried elderberries, hibiscus leaves, and cinnamon, all very high in anti-oxidants. The blend is delicious and very healing.

Elderberry:

Not only do elderberries make for delicious tasting tea, they also have numerous healing qualities. Elderberries contain flavonoids, which is a diverse group of phytonutrients found in almost all fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids are partially responsible for the vivid colors in fruits and vegetables. (Remember: “Eat a Rainbow.” ) Because elderberry is a flavonoid, it is a natural antioxidant that protects our cells against damage. Drinking this tea stimulates the immune system to fight respiratory infections such as the flu. There is also evidence that elderberry can be effective in treating heart disease, gum inflammation, high cholesterol, and cancer.

Hibiscus:

Hibiscus is most widely known as an effective tool for blood pressure management. Multiple research studies have proven that consuming hibiscus can lower blood pressure up to 10 points in people with pre-hypertensive and mildly hypertensive readings. Hibiscus contains protocatechuic acid has anti-tumor and antioxidant properties. It is rich in ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C, an essential nutrient to boost and stimulate the activity of your immune system. Hibiscus makes a slightly tart tasting tea, so when paired with elderberry and cinnamon, the flavors complement each other perfectly.

Cinnamon:

Fun fact: out of all the medicinal herbs and spices, cinnamon is the most densely packed with antioxidants. There’s a LOT of good coming from one little cinnamon stick! Like elderberries, cinnamon contains flavonoids which provide anti-inflammatory properties. Reducing inflammation eases muscle aches/soreness, lessens the severity of allergic reactions, fights viruses and infections, reduces the effects of aging on the body, and so much more. People with Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes can especially benefit from incorporating cinnamon into their diet. Cinnamon not only lowers blood sugar levels, it also has been shown to improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin. As an added benefit, it can also lower “bad” cholesterol and combat heart disease.

The most important lesson today: don’t forget to save some room for a fresh batch of tea at your next visit!
