Some conversations stay with you long after they’re over. This is one of them.

In a recent interview with A Major Difference — the team behind the IonCleanse foot bath system — Dr. Miriam Rahav, M.D. sits down for a wide-ranging, unhurried conversation about what it really means to support the body’s ability to heal. She brings her full self to it: the clinician, the philosopher, the person who has sat with patients through the hardest moments of their lives and come away with a very clear sense of what actually matters.

Who Is Dr. Miriam Rahav?

Dr. Rahav is not your average physician.

Triple board-certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and functional medicine, she is the founder of Rahav Wellness | The Center for Collaborative Healing. Her path to medicine didn’t follow the usual script — she started with a degree in education and comparative literature from Brown University, spent time teaching abroad in Japan and Thailand, and then found herself immersed in traditional healing communities in Northern Thailand, where working alongside people living with HIV/AIDS became the catalyst that drew her toward medicine.

A Fulbright scholar, she trained at Columbia University, Ben Gurion University’s Medical School for International Health, Montefiore Medical Center, and NYU. Today, her practice brings together conventional and functional medicine, the Metabolic Approach to Cancer, acupuncture, autonomic response testing (ART), and neural therapy — all in service of what she describes as building collaborative, accessible models of whole-person care.

What the Conversation Is Really About

At its heart, this interview is about one question: What does it mean to care for a whole person?

Dr. Rahav’s answer is expansive and deeply thoughtful. She talks about safety — not just physical safety, but the safety of being truly heard, understood, and seen. She reflects on how much of our health traces back to whether we were cherished as children, whether we learned to express ourselves, whether our nervous systems were ever really allowed to rest. She describes each human being as a complex universe, and her medicine as an attempt to honor that complexity rather than reduce it to symptoms.

The conversation then turns to where the IonCleanse fits into that vision — and her answer is disarmingly simple: everyone. When asked which patients benefit most from the IonCleanse, her response was immediate: “The ones who say yes.” She wasn’t being glib. She genuinely means it. In her view, if you are alive in today’s world, you are dealing with an overstimulated nervous system, a body under toxic load, and a need for quiet — for something that lets you sit still, breathe, and let your body do what it does best when you give it a chance.

As she puts it, we could all use some parasympathetic tone. We could all use some detox. We could all use a little time with our feet in warm water.

Why This Video Is Worth Your Time

This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s a window into how a brilliant, experienced, deeply humane physician thinks about healing.

Dr. Rahav speaks with the kind of clarity that only comes from years of holding space for patients at the edges of health and illness — including people facing terminal diagnoses. She has seen what matters. She knows what actually moves the needle. And she is remarkably generous in sharing it.

Whether you are a patient curious about integrative approaches to wellness, a practitioner thinking about expanding what you offer, or simply someone who wants to understand their own body better, this conversation has something real for you.

You’ll come away with a richer understanding of:

Why detoxification isn’t a wellness trend but a physiological necessity in the modern world

What “whole-person care” actually looks like in practice — not as a slogan, but as a clinical philosophy

How the body’s parasympathetic nervous system is connected to your ability to heal

What makes the IonCleanse a meaningful tool in an integrative practice, in Dr. Rahav’s own words

“Don’t give up, no matter what anybody tells you, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

This is the advice that our irreplaceable Officer Manager, Tiffany Cruz, offers to friends, patients and people alike.

A native New Yorker Tiffany recalls spending the majority of her free time with family, especially her grandparents. Her grandparents luckily resided only four blocks away from her house.

Her fondest childhood memories revolve around the special moments of her drinking coffee, telling stories, and eating crackers with them. Even though the coffee was made simple with added milk and sugar, she has yet to have another brew that tastes better.

Growing up Tiffany wasn’t set on any particular career. But there was one thing she was certain of, she wanted to help others. Although she wasn’t sure in what form that would be, it was a passion she held onto as she navigated the work field and her higher education.

Tiffany began working as an assistant manager at a retail company. Through this position, Tiffany learned that in addition to helping others, she also really enjoyed business administration. Upon this revelation, Tiffany went to Borough of Manhattan Community College to focus on Business Management.

As a new college graduate, Tiffany began to work front desk at a holistic chiropractor office; merging Tiffany’s passion for helping others as well as the business that comes hand in hand with healthcare administration. In addition, this is where she first began to see the opportunities that integrative medicine offers.

Time at this office piqued Tiffany’s interest in the medical field, however, she felt there was no longer room for her to grow at her current place of work, so she started to look for a space that would provide that.

This is where Tiffany and Rahav Wellness crossed paths.

Tiffany recalls of her interview with the practice, “I remember walking in and Dr. Rahav welcoming me with a big smile. She was pouring tea and asked if I wanted some. It wasn’t like the other interviews I had been going to.”

And as fate would have it Tiffany’s interview extended to a full-time position.

Immediately Tiffany felt that she found more than another job but a home. A place where she could grow within her position, learn about integrative medicine and be supported by a caring team.

Tiffany moved up to Office Manager where she was able to apply her business skills and passion for helping others.

As her time with the practice continued her knowledge and interest in functional medicine continued to grow as well.

Throughout her childhood, Tiffany and her family went to conventional doctor offices and relied on prescription medicines. Rahav Wellness was offering a way of healing that was completely new to her as well as beneficial.

Tiffany had been suffering from severe plantar fasciitis. She sought out professional treatment where she was told she’d have to deal with it for the rest of her life. That rubbing her foot along a frozen water bottle was the only solution. The answers she was given was merely symptom management.

However, after working at Rahav Wellness she started taking Inflammatone, a natural supplement and has never had to deal with the pain again.

It made her realize that you never have to settle when it comes to your health. A wish she has for anyone who is seeking to solve their own health care concerns.

The opportunities and the passion Tiffany has been searching for since she knew what kind of work she wanted to focus on, she found at Rahav Wellness.

When Tiffany isn’t making the lives of patients and coworkers better, she kickboxes, takes care of her precious dogs, and reads fantasy stories.

With the holidays upon us, we are reminded what makes this time of year so special; whether that’s our family, friends, or the wide selection of cheese balls at the store.

For me, it’s a combination of the above. However, I have found that like many others, I too, have lost sight of what the holidays are truly representative of.

For those of you that don’t me, my name is Rachael and I am the receptionist at Rahav Wellness. I recently moved to New York City from the rural plains of Ohio and my journey here has been everything you’d expect in a comedy sketch.

Like every person who has had the courage to move to this city, I’ve experienced the expected ups and downs. However, I hit a particular low this past month.

I won’t trouble you with the gory details but I had an infestation of sorts due to a scummy landlord that left me apartment less the weekend my sister was visiting.

So you can only imagine the state of panic I was in. How am I supposed to show her my glamorous new life (all lows aside) if we don’t have anywhere to sleep? Rent an Air BnB or a hotel? Well, it’s not in my budget. Stay at friends? They either don’t have the room or they don’t feel comfortable taking me in because I have been labeled with the scarlet letters BB.

All I can say is I’m at work, ten hours before my sister is supposed to land, distressed, and with no plan. My state of despair was not well hidden because my boss, Dr. Rahav, approaches me and asks, “What’s wrong?”

With little hesitation, I frustratingly ramble through my predicament, when I finish she responds, “Just stay at my place.” I stand there. Not really sure what to say.

Why wouldn’t I jump at this offer?

Maybe it’s because during my short existence I have never heard of an employee staying with their boss. There could be many reasons for this.

Some high possibilities would be that all the ones I had before would have never been kind enough to offer or it’s not a practiced custom in America. Either way, I was desperate so I replied with a cool, “Sure.”

However, as the day went on my rampant thoughts began to prevail and I was now in a new state of hysteria.

What if I was imposing? She has an entire family and adding my sister and me to the mix would only lead to a rendition of the Brady Bunch. And what if this was in fact, super weird? I could already feel the heat of judgment radiating from the gods of social structures.

So I did the most professional thing I could think of. I went into her office, during a break, holding back my tears, and spewed incoherent sentences, but again Dr. Rahav only responded, “Honey, you’re the one that’s worried. I’m not worried.”

With her reassuring words, I texted my sister and told her the plan.

That night after work Dr. Rahav took me to her place where her children and partner welcomed me warmly. They fed me dinner and a beautiful apple crumb cake. The entire time I was eating I kept thinking, “There’s got to be a catch, right?” But the only thing I was requested to do is watch the “Kaminsky Method”. Which, if you have not seen, is a very funny show.

Before heading out Dr. Rahav’s eight-year-old daughter, who was quite the host, made up the couch and mattress in the living room for me and my sister to sleep on. I insisted on helping, but she was very stern in letting her do it. After that, I left for the airport.

When my sister, Caitlyn, and I were finally reunited I gave her an entire spiel on how our days would go so we would not impose. We would eat all meals out and we would only come back to the apartment when we were ready to shower and go to bed. This was my master plan.

I went to bed that night ready to implement this schedule, but the next morning when I woke up Dr. Rahav already had tea waiting for me. Though this was not apart of the itinerary I eagerly welcomed the warm brew and conversation. Not long after my sister woke up and I introduced her to everyone.

That morning wasn’t what I had in mind, but it turned out way better.

My sister and I had breakfast with Dr. Rahav and her family. We spoke about childhood memories and life growing up in the midwest. They shared their stories and how in Israel everyone’s home is welcomed to guests alike. We were laughing, eating, and talking as if we had always been each other’s lives.

After a day of adventuring my sister and I came back to the apartment where Dr. Rahav was cooking dinner. She invited me to the kitchen and showed me how to cook collard greens.

For those of you who don’t know me, my cooking skills haven’t advanced past picking up pizza in a college buffet line. So having this opportunity to learn in such a warm setting was special.

After we all shared dinner together we sat around and laughed over baby photos and my Halloween costumes throughout the years. My sister, Dr. Rahav’s daughters, and I watched lip sync battle and then eventually got caught in the dark whole of endless youtube videos.

I went to bed that night laughing at myself. My master plan that I never laid into effect was no plan at all. All these moments, that Caitlyn and I were sharing with Dr. Rahav and her family were so much better.

When Monday rolled around and I had to take my sister back to the airport I said to her, “I’m sorry if this wasn’t what you had in mind for this weekend.” She laughed at me. Though my sister is younger, she possesses a mind much wiser and calmer than my own. She looked at me and said, “Rachael I came here to spend time with you. And that’s what I got to do.”

And when it was time for her to head into the airport she looked at me and said, “And there aren’t many bosses like Dr. Rahav. Don’t you mess yourself out of this job.”

I laughed. She was right. There aren’t any bosses like her.

I realized in that moment I had a lot to be thankful for, despite the unfavorable critters moving into my apartment.

Moving here has been overwhelming at times. But to know that at the end of the day there are people who would open their doors to someone they have only known for a few short months left me at peace.

Because isn’t this what the holidays are truly about? Not the gifts or forced conversations, but the act of welcoming and giving to those that you may not consider your own?

Maybe if we all extended that much warmth and grace and opened our doors to those no matter the social etiquette of it all, the world would be a more compassionate place where taking care of each other wouldn’t feel like an exception.

In the interest of advancing his English, and passion for medicine Nelson registered for Anatomy for Artists, a human body sketch class. This course allowed him the opportunity to familiarize himself with the human anatomy in the English language; in addition, it provided him with the tools and confidence necessary for him to advance his career in healthcare in the United States.

In the beginning, he was unable to understand the instructor’s comments to him, but he said, “If he smiled I smiled if he frowned I frowned. I wasn’t sure what he was saying but he smiled quite a bit.” After this course ended Nelson went to the Manhattan Institute to continue his studies.

Nelson’s first job as an IV technician in the States was serving patients who had been affected by the Aids Epidemic. This period of work was emotionally difficult for Nelson as his time with patients was often fleeting and cut too short. He said, “I would work with patients and the next week they wouldn’t make it in for their appointment. It was like that all the time. It was depressing.”

However, as the years passed, the clinic that Nelson worked at started offering IV’s to patients who were experiencing symptoms such as chronic fatigue, colds, detox, etc. During this period of time Nelson was grateful to be able to witness the improvements in patients’ health over the course of their IV treatments, “To be able to relieve someone’s pain and suffering and even be able to cure it, that’s what makes my work rewarding.”

His ability to empathize and show compassion is what makes him truly unique. However, Nelson believes it’s a characteristic that anyone in his field should practice. Maybe this mentality comes from the lack of quality care his family and him have received in the past. Nelson recalls, “When my wife was pregnant and we would go to the hospital, they wouldn’t even make eye contact with us or acknowledge us. So then I started bringing Dunkin coffee and donuts in and then they would light up when we walked in. But I don’t want patients to have to do that for me. I’m here to serve them and make them comfortable, without expecting anything in return.”

Nelson’s constant generosity and incredible work ethic is inspired by his life motto, “No matter what you do, give it everything.”

When Nelson isn’t putting all his positive energy towards his patients you can find him playing music (by ear), making art, and spending time with his family.

“Be kind, be curious, always” is a lifestyle quote that Judit Aguirre has integrated into her personal life as well as her career in holistic medicine.

Judy has been working as a colon hydrotherapist for over twenty-five years. She received her certification from Wood Hygienic Institute in Florida.

A misconception Judy has run across during her time as a colon hydrotherapist is patients often assume colonics are solely meant for digestive or gut issues. However, that is not the case. Colon Hydrotherapy can improve your overall health.

Judy’s holistic medicine journey began after many years of suffering from multiple health issues with no successful treatments. She turned away from allopathic medicine and put her heart into learning and practicing integrative medicine modalities with a focus on detox, and how the body has the power to heal itself.

Dedicated to learning all she could, Judy received her certification as a Natural Health Professional in 2008 from Trinity School of Natural Health. She’s certified in reflexology and detox ear acupuncture. Additionally, Judy received training to be a raw food educator and Reiki practitioner.

Looking to incorporate nature into healing, Judy trained in shamanic and crystal healing as well.

When she isn’t devoting all her time to healing humans in a deep, multi-modal way Judy enjoys traveling, listening to music, soaking in nature, and reading.
